Drive Safe & Arrive Safe - Awareness Campaign on Road Safety

Drive Safe & Arrive Safe – Public Awarness Campaign on Road Safety and to curb a man made national Disaster

India witnesses a life casualty every 4 minutes in a road accident. The increase in the death ratio is maximum due to the lack of proper aid in time to the road accident victim. Its high time now. This needs to stop and requires immediate attention.

MIC have been pre-eminent in spreading the message about road safety through a wide variety of grass root activities aimed at raising awareness amongst all levels of society as to the risks and consequences associated with a lack of road safety awareness.

The intention to educate and encourage the people in general and drivers in particular for safe driving, road safety is priority by MIC (Mother India Care) while driving or riding. The solution could be derived or the remedial measure could be worked upon if the road commuters are aware about the cause and the fatal consequence of road accidents. over speeding, rash driving & showing stunt on the roads contributes towards the maximum casualty.

We promote Road Safety Awareness Campaigns to draw the public attention and bring consciousness among them. The code isn’t about maintaining obediently following the traffic rules and precisely ensuing more alertness for others concerning about the consequences and costs of road accidents. Our main motto is to put a brake to daily road accidents which is possible by raising public awareness constantly through various means.

What is public awareness?

Public awareness is the public’s level of understanding about the importance of road safety for road users in the localities, cities and in India. Raising public awareness is not the same as telling the public what to do –

It is explaining issues and disseminating knowledge to people that they can make their own decisions. High public awareness occurs when a significant proportion of society agrees that the safe drive (road safety) is an issue that is of great importance to all citizens. Low public awareness occurs when majority of people do not know and do not care about safe drive (road safety). There are two main areas to focus on when raising awareness about safe drive (road safety).  First there is general awareness, which involves widespread understanding and acknowledgement of the issues on a societal level. Second, there is self awareness which occurs when individuals understand how the concept of safe drive affects them personally.

There are different ways to raise public awareness about safe drive for road users. It can be done through specific planned events, banner campaigns, poster campaigns, websites, documentaries, newspaper articles, in schools and workplaces – any publicly available medium. Different examples of strategies for raising awareness are presented throughout this section. Ideally, program partners would combine a few strategies together, each tailored to the priority and specific groups of the population.

Methodologically sound approaches to raising awareness, together with sufficient exposure have been shown, through social science research, to have an effect on knowledge, attitudes and behaviour.  It is usually more effective to create a coordinated, long-term awareness-raising campaign than to create large, short-term campaign. This is because when the concept of safe drive is talked about over time, its importance becomes normalized – it becomes a normal part of people’s everyday lives. By contrast, if there is only one single campaign to address the issue of safe drive (road safety), people may forget about the issues once the campaign is over. By taking different approaches at different times, and at different places, awareness can be raised all over the city, district, state and country level. There is a need to involve all the stakeholders, road users to make constant and combined efforts using planned activities, events and issues as a backdrop for talking about safer Indian roads.

Why is public awareness important?

We all know with the fact that human body is very delicate and metal body (vehicle) is too hard, and if a moving vehicle just touches the human body, it causes minor injuries to major collusion.  The main causes of road traffic accidents are over speed, drink & drive, use of mobile phone on wheels, defective road, driver fault, vehicle fault and not following road traffic rules amongst others. These road accidents cause human and financial loss to a family and administration. The code isn’t about maintaining following the traffic rules and precisely ensuing more alertness for others concerning about consequences and costs of road accidents. There is “No U-turn” after a crash so avoid it, any way possible. The public needs to have common understanding safe drive is, how it relates to road user’s safety on roads. The public also has to believe and share values that safe drive is an important issue for road users.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

“Our behavior on road is a reflection of our character,” so we work as a pressure group to give a wake-up call to the authorities concerned and shake the bad driving habits of our people. There is “No U-turn” after a crash so avoid it, any way possible.

Just imagine, if you stay on this page for 5 minutes, seven more must have died somewhere on the roads, not to mention how many getting injured.

Road Safety Awareness Campaigns

We conduct road safety awareness campaigns to prevent road accidents through banners/posters campaigns, hoardings campaigns, conducting road safety pledge signing by mass, specific & planned event,  yoga sessions, essay writing competitions on road safety, training/classes to drivers to prevent accident,  and also reward and recognition to safe drivers and also to emergency crew.

Emergency First Responders - Road Crash Rescue Training Camp

It is not possible when and where an road accident occurs, and ambulance will be available at the accident spot instantly. But we want to train members of the public who can come forward to help and assist the victims. We also conduct road crash rescue training camp and giving training to the members of the public to help road accident victims to provide emergency help till the rescue team arrive at the accident spot. After the completion of the training, we provide the certificates to such persons as "Emergency First Responders" (EFRs). We also give reward and recognition to all such peoples (Good Samaritans) who extend timely help to road crash victims through our awards night events.

Road Safety Tips - For Safe Driving

Plan and travel

  • Obey road traffic law and carry your driving license and vehicle documents (Registration, Insurance & Emission) with you.
  • Plan and re-check the route in advance to your destination and give yourself enough time to reach the destination.
  • Use our ERC Mobile app for your GPS navigation tool to plan your trip in advance.
  • For peace of mind, try to stick to major routes or toll roads - If you are going to travel on the ‘service roads’ identify the landmarks, towns along the route and what the distance is between them.
  • Do not get stranded without fuel – Always plan ahead where you will re-fuel.
  • Plan rest stops along the way and if you are travelling with kids it is a great way to let them know when and where you will be stopping.
  • Always ensure that a friend or family member, who is not travelling with you, is aware of the route that you are planning to travel. Ideally you should also update them on your progress of the journey and let them know when you have reached your destination safely.
  • Try to avoid driving after dark if possible.
  • Expect others not to be as obedient to the law as yourself.
  • Expect others are blind and you have to overtake carefully.

Vehicle Fitness / Roadworthiness

  • Make sure that your vehicle is in a roadworthy condition before departure.
  • All lights and indicators, windscreen wipers, brakes, steering, exhaust system and tyres should be carefully examined for faults.
  • Take your vehicle for a full check before embarking on your holiday travels !
  • Do not overload your vehicle.

Driver Fitness / Driver Fatigue

  • Have a good rest before you embark on your journey.
  • Take safety breaks every 2 hours or 200km
  • Do not drink and drive - . If you intend to consume alcohol make alternative arrangements so you will not be behind the wheel.
  • Remain alert at all times and avoid Driver Distractions such as mobile phone conversations, texting etc!
  • Be responsible with safety seatbelt wearing - Always wear your safety seat belt and see that everyone in the car is wearing theirs.
  • Indian law requires each passenger being transported in a motor vehicle to make use of the seatbelts and strap themselves in. It is the driver’s responsibility to make sure all passengers are strapped in mains strapped in while travelling.
  • Infants and children under the age of 12 should travel in the back seat of a vehicle and should be buckled up, either in a car seat, booster seat or using the cars seatbelt, depending on the age and weight of the child.
  • Infants between 0 months and one year of age, or up to 10kg in weight, should travel in a rear facing car seat in the back of a car. In the event of an accident, the impact will be on the seat and not on the infant.

Defensive Driving Behavior

  • Drive defensively! Risk takers are collision makers!
  • Avoid all distractions -Keep both eyes on the road and hands on the steering wheel!
  • Be visible – drive with your lights on!
  • Headlights should be dipped well before an approaching vehicle is within range of the main beam.
  • Stay within the speed limit at all times.
  • Be especially alert when approaching traffic lights, intersections and level crossings.
  • Only overtake when it is absolutely safe to do so!
  • Maintain at least a 3 second following distance - this distance should be increased at night, in foggy or rainy conditions and when the road is wet.
  • Avoid driving on the blind spot of other vehicles.
  • Be courteous towards fellow road users - keep your temper and resist the temptation to retaliate.
  • Be cautious when driving alone, and avoid stopping in remote areas.

Avoiding Criminals on the road

  • Remain alert to any areas that might present a threat of criminal activity such as hijackings and smash-and-grab.
  • Always place your valuables in the boot of your car and never leave items such as cell phones and wallets in open sight, unattended, or on the seat of a car

Recognizing the Safety of All Road Users

  • Try to recognize potentially dangerous drivers on and pedestrians alongside the road and keep well clear of them.
  • Try to keep children away from the roads! The roads are not the place to play!
  • When waking near traffic – avoid distractions and be visible!
  • Motorists must be aware of pedestrians and animals on the open road specifically near more rural areas.
  • Bikers should drive with lights on  and wear Protective Clothing at all times
  • Bikers should never hang out in a truck’s blind spot or “No-Zone.”
  • Be extra cautious, paying attention to the signals and brake lights of other vehicles, especially trucks.
  • When cycling during the holidays remember that there is strength to be found in numbers.
  • Do not go on the road alone and rather fid a partner to cycle with you - This will be very important especially in the event of an emergency.
  • Inform friends and family when you will be cycling, the road you will be cycling on and when you can be expected to return.
  • Carry a fully charged cellular phone with you so you can request assistance in the event of an emergency.
  • The law requires that you cycle in single fie and with a safety helmet.

Safe Driving in Challenging Road Conditions

  • Always adjust your driving to the driving conditions and environment.
  • If it is raining, turn your headlights and windscreen wipers on. Try to reduce speed and try not to brake suddenly. Often there is oil and petrol on the road, which can cause you to skid out of control.
  • If there is fog, reduce speed, turn headlights on low, or use fog lamps. Use the road markings or the verge of the road as a guide and be very alert for sudden looming obstacles.
  • Always keep in mind – if you cannot see or operate the vehicle safely – You should not be driving!
  • Travelling with small children can be a challenge. Small children can get bored and irritable on long trips so make sure you pack a variety of their favourite snacks and toys such as portable DVD players, colouring books and crayons.
  • If your child tends to suffer from motion sickness and complains of dizziness or nausea, this can be helped by getting out of the car for a bit of fresh air. Alternatively, there are over the counter drugs available for treating motion sickness, which need to be taken before

Emergency stops and Accidents

  • Try to avoid stopping on the highway, rather take the next of ramp to stop in a more public area where you can stretch, refresh yourself and/or take a break from driving; and use our toll free number 1800 1212 247 for roadside assistance and other emergencies close at hand or saved on your cell phone, so that you are well-prepared for any eventuality.
  • Keep essential roadside equipment with you as many breakdowns are caused by relatively minor problems. Items include a fist aid kit, tow rope, warning triangles, torch and fie extinguisher.
  • In the event of an accident, determine the extent of the damage or injuries and assess whether or not medical attention is required.
  • If you need an ambulance, tap on the SOS button provided on your mobile app to get an ambulance at you location.
  • If you need an Emergency First Responder, then use our toll free number or search in the mobile app and search it in the nearby location and send a request to assist you.
  • Take a picture with a camera or mobile phone and file an accident report with the police as you will need a case number for your insurance company to file a claim. Remember to get names, addresses, telephone numbers and ID numbers of everyone involved in the accident

In light of the magnitude of crime and lawlessness on our roads we believe it would be important to emphasize the importance of Defensive Driving as well!
