Daily Road Crash - A Global Issue.

 

Do you want sustained road safety or unsustained road safety ?
The choice will be sustained road safety. Sustained road safety requires sustained attention. Road users operate with 50 to 70% of sustained attention or in other words 30 to 50% of non-sustained attention. With 50% of attention we can achieve 50% sustained road safety instead of 100% sustained road safety. Non-sustained attention is an innate default state of our mind where our mind often engage in random thinking but we consciously engage it in the targeted thinking which is on the current task.

Vision Zero, adopted by the Swedish Parliament in 1997, represents a fundamental, ethical shift in road safety, aiming for zero fatalities or serious injuries rather than merely reducing the number of collisions. Sweden has reduced road fatalities to 50% in a period of around 3 decades, by designing a safe system approach and done improvement in the external world. But the remaining 50% road fatalities are occurring due 30 to 50% of non sustained attention which require an improvement in the inner world.

Sweden cannot achieve 100% sustained road safety in another 5 decades without addressing the crucial factor of road users operate with 30 to 50% non-sustained attention which is the inner world improvement. When a problem lies in the software of the smartphone, working only on the hardware and shifting the mobile tower will not fix the problem. Without addressing the 30-50% gap in attention, 100% safety is unlikely, prompting Sweden to push its safety goals further into the future so as to do more improvement in the outer world. Even with 5-star roads, advanced surveillance, and no manually driven vehicles, zero fatalities might not be achieved, and turning inward is essential to improve inner world. 

The technology and infrastructure alone cannot reach "zero fatalities" because they do not address the root cause: the human element. Road users have learned basic road safety skill (through the mind guidance) or some have learned advanced road safety skill ( through the expert guidance) but no one has learned the education of inner world strategic specialisation through cognitive engineering program.

Research confirms that a "fundamental attribution error" exists among road users. Road users tend to attribute the mistakes of others to poor personality or lack of ability ("what an idiot"), while viewing their own errors as situational or unavoidable ("fault was on the road or in others"). This bias causes 92 to 96% of road users to believe they are above-average in skill, reducing the personal motivation for self-improvement. All road users have the illusion that others are dying in road crashes, "It won't happen to me". Break you illusion before it breaks you. Because road users who are dying in road crashes they too were having this belief.
 

We have to make a shift from Vision Zaro (campaign/strategy) to Vision 100 (campaign / strategy) to increase the will power and personal motivation for self-improvement by learning attention regulation, developing attention backup and automating task-related thinking. Vision 100 is maintaining 100% sustained road safety which is a life style and standard. Vision 100 means anything less than 100% compliance is a failure.
 

Understanding the need of attention backup, we also promote  - Heed or Bleed a global campaign and warning to address the critical, often ignored, need for "attention backup" (cognitive reserve) while driving or commuting. The "HEED OR BLEED" campaign is a scientific and specific warning, particularly aimed at road users, highlighting the stark choice between developing cognitive attention to safety (heed) or suffering the consequences of inaction (bleed). It is designed to foster a culture of active attention to maintain 100% sustained road safety, suggesting that neglecting sustained road safety protocols (anything less than of 100% compliance ) leads to severe, often irreversible, consequences

 

Vision 100 campaign excels 100% sustained road safety culture. By focusing on "100% sustained road safety," it removes the "acceptable" margin for error. It treats road safety like a high-performance standard (similar to aviation), where anything less than 100% compliance is a failure, making it a powerful tool for corporate and community engagement for the education of inner world strategic specialisation in addition to external world education. The conventional road safety education has become ineffective, because it lacks the education of inner world. 

 

If we want sustained road safety then we have to put our combined and sustained efforts. Darkness is no match with light but light must be active because in the absence of light, darkness is automatic. Sustainability is no match with unsustainability, but sustainability must be activ because in the absence of sustainability, unsustainability is automatic. 

Expecting sustainable solutions in road safety from unsustainable efforts is generally considered  highly incorrect and fundamentally flawed. Road safety, to be sustainable, requires long-term, systemic, and proactive approaches rather than reactive, temporary, or ad-hoc measures. 

When the problem is in the mobile phone, shifting the mobile tower will not solve the problem, we have to find the problem within the mobile phone and fix it. When solving a problem dig out the roots instead of plucking the leaves because the leaves will grow on the plucking area. When we want to solve a problem we must address the root cause rather than fixing its never ending effects. 

Breach of attention is the root cause of road crash as one or repeat of attention breach leads to road crash and we need to fix this global issue, When we fail to save focus energy on the roads, less focus makes us reactive and it leads to a road crash. So, we need to save the focus to reduce road crash and save precious lives. All road users are required to do dual tasks while commuting on the road, which are walking/ driving and maintaining cognitive attention, but all are committing attention breaches and all are in dire need of cognitive support system - CSS.

 

Research has established that attention span is reduced to 4 to 5 seconds, which has caused cognitive deficiency. The cognitive deficiency is having a negative impact in all fields but it is having a fatal impact on the road  What we lack must work on it. Road safety is not just about following road traffic rules, but also about following cognitive protocols . No road user follows cognitive protocols on the road, which is sustained attention demanding complex cognitive task. All road users are paying unsustained attention on the road, and all are in need of attention backup because unsustained attention is natural. Sustained attention will get you sustained road safety and unsustained attention will get you unsustained road safety.

All road users are having cognitive deficiency. 

 

Rather than simply meeting the minimum requirements for compliance (road traffic rules), taking 100% responsibility, developing CSS, and becoming proactive with a forward-looking approach is the key to avoiding attention breaches and accidental suicides.  Staying ahead of the breach compliance is the key to achieve vision 100% sustainable safe road road travel for all. 

Focus energy is spent more on comfort* and distraction elements, rather than efforts toward completing the current task. (* comfort means thinking process about past memories and future worrieswhich is an esay task for mind rather than focusing in the present task which is a difficult task). All road users must save their focus energy to use it effectively on the current task and complete it intelligently and stay compliant with the cognitive attention rule.

When we pay less attention on roads we commit attention breach and during attention gap road crashes occur and without CSS on roads, we manage road safety reactively and accidentally. Mental people or saints are the ones who can devote their full attention to one task consistently and compulsively, because their thought process gets stuck on one single thought. Since we all have so many needs and constantly think about them, and it is impossible for us to continuously and compulsively pay full attention to the road, so we all need CSS as an attention supplement and backup to enhance cognitive abilities. 

Attention span is reducing and the confidence of all road users is increasing that they can manage their attention gap with their daily experience on the road, whereas, every day around 3200 road users die in road crashes around the world, of which around 500 in India with the same confidence. Their confidence is turning into an illusion and without CSS the same can happen to us any day. Break your illusion before it breaks you.

Vision Zero strategic education is not working then shift to Vision 100. Science says if desired results are not achieved, upgrade the quality of seeds, process and soil. The Vision 100 project is an Inner World Strategic Specialization (IWSS) in sustainable road safety and it integrates science and spirituality. Sustainable road safety shifts responsibility from just the individual road user to the entire system, creating a resilient environment where road safety is built-in, not bolted-on, for current and future generations. It is transforming road safety from a "campaign" into a continuous, year-long effort, so that nations can significantly reduce fatalities and create a safer, more sustainable environment for all road users. 

 

We foster a culture of sustained road safety and are committed to prepare and show the measurable data wherein how many road users have developed cognitive ability for a desired stable behaviour on the road.  We prefer to run campaigns as "maintain 100% sustained road safety" on all roads and also as “100 days sustained road safety" on a specific road typically has a more positive and lasting impact on behaviour compared to “100 days zero fatality”on a specific road.  "Zero fatality" is often seen as a target to be "achieved," whereas "sustained safety" is a lifestyle or standard to be maintained. So we promote vision 100% sustained road safety.
